My mom visited Seattle once for work in the 90s. How she spoke about the houseboats and waterfront has always been part of why I idealized this special place. She came again for Easter my first year out west. I had just adopted my pup, Lo and Mom instantly fell in love. We took a classic O'Brien roadtrip where we shoved way too many adventures into a short visit. We hiked in the rainforest, drove the ragged coastline, visited the center for wooden boats and bought Lo her first sweater. I have taken the same trip many times since, but that weekend the Olympic Peninsula became one of my most special places. It is how Dan and I try to share the splendor of the PNW when folks come to visit.
